Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-7 Damvasslia, Møre og Romsdal

JGr. Drontheim/ Einsatzschwarm Öerlandet Weisse 6+ WNr.2668 02.12 1941

Ran out of fuel while trying to find the way back to Ørlanded in snowy weather conditions. Uffz.Heinz Niehaus parachuted and landed safely.
The aircraft crashed into a bog at Damtjønna in Surnadal. Uffz.Niehaus walked down to Heggset.

Uffz Heinrich Niehaus became the first casualty of the newly formed IV./JG 5. He crashed and got killed on a training flight near Elvenes on July 7th 1942. He is buried at Narvik Cemetery.

Uffz.Heinz Niehaus (Weisse 6+ WNr.2668) hoppet ut i fallskjerm og berget livet, Messerschmitten krasjet i myra her ved Damtjønna på Heggset i Surnadal.

Det var muligens 3 fly som havarerte i forsøket på og finne veien tilbake til Ørlandet i snøstormen. Ofw.Friedrich Hammesfahr fra JGr.Drontheim (Weisse12+ WNr.5163) nødlandet på Halsanaustan.
