Took off from RAF Leuchars on a training flight. P/O John Brian Lightfoot (22) was killed when his jet crashed into the hillside Oxen Craig during a heavy snow storm. The aircraft exploded on impact.
A memorial was erected at Oxen Hill, comemorating the two crash sites at Bennachie.
In addition of the Meteor, a Westland Wallace biplane crashed here in 1939, on the first day of the war.
