The a/c belonged to 1. Squadron of 36 Mine and Torpedo Aviation Regiment of the Northern Fleet. At 17:30 local time, it was hit by AA-fire during an torpedo attack on the German Artilleriewerkstattschiff "Illkirch" moored at Kvalsund. Both torpedoes missed and the shot up aircraft crashed into a boat house at Kvalsundet. The Russian crew of four were all KIA. They are buried at the Russian War Cemetery, Tjøtta. Pilot, Lt.Sergej P. Batrakov. Navigator, Lt.Vladimir F. Beljaev. Radio Operator, Sgt.Konstantin V. Bykov. Gunner, JSgt.Peter V. Popov.
