Flyet tilhørte en radar forsøksenhet, stasjonert i Köhten. Flyet ble bygget på Ernst Heinkel Flugzeugwerke Seestadt, Rostock i Juli 1940
This same Heinkel also had a crash landing at Beauvais airfield, France on 7th December 1940.The crew were unhurt, but the aircraft was 30% damaged. The Heinkel bomber was sent to a French repair shop which replaced the main undercarriage and part of one wing, and also got repaired the lower gondola.

Left: This photo is taken in 1942 and showing some of the remains of the HE-111. Note the positions of the wreck parts on the cliff that has fallen down after the plane hit the top of the mountain.
Of interest is also the remains of either fuel or oil on the cliff.
